The City of Sisterly Love

It was a rainy Saturday morning in Pennsylvania, but that didn’t stop over 1,500 women, men and children from participating in Philadelphia’s inaugural Sista Strut on June 17th! Cracker Barrel is proud to have sponsored this event and we continue to be the title sponsor for all Sista Strut walks that take place all over the country!

What is Sista Strut?

The goal of Sista Strut is to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer in women of color, as well as provide information on community resources. Studies show that African American women are more likely to get breast cancer at a younger age and have a death rate from breast cancer greater than that of Caucasian women of the same age. Sista Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, their family and friends, heightens awareness, promotes early detection and the search for a cure.

Some of us from Cracker Barrel’s home office in Lebanon, TN met up with store managers from local Cracker Barrels in the Philadelphia area to participate in the event and hand out manicure sets. Ooh la la!

We had a great time getting to know people and sharing in the spirit of the event. From dancing to fun music and performances, enjoying the energetic crowd and admiring the supportive community, Sista Strut was the perfect way to start the day!

While handing out giveaways, we asked people who they were walking for. Participants shared emotional stories of strength, courage and love as some of them have battled breast cancer themselves, know someone who is a breast cancer survivor or had a loved one lose their battle.

These powerful stories remind us of how important it is to be involved in our communities and support organizations that are doing great work. It’s no secret that Cracker Barrel focuses on pleasing people, but our reach is far beyond just our restaurants and stores.

We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Sista Strut and look forward to meeting all of those who come out to our sponsored events throughout the year!

Hope to see you soon!
